Meet the Brand is a new series where we introduce the designers behind the pieces on our rails — the people, the heritage, and the craft that earns a label its place at Mini Moments. First up: Patachou.
From its little corner in the north of Portugal, Patachou has grown into one of the most quietly respected names in luxury childrenswear — the kind of label that doesn't need to shout, because the craftsmanship speaks for itself. It's a designer we're proud to now carry at Mini Moments, and one already loved by the likes of Harrods and Childrensalon. This season, we've brought a curated edit of the AW26 collection into the shop, and wanted to share the story behind it.
The House
Patachou is a family business, now in its third generation. It was founded by a grandmother with decades of Portuguese textile know-how already behind her, and is today run alongside her daughter and granddaughter — three generations of women shaping every collection from the same studio, surrounded by moodboards, fabric swatches, and sketches pinned to the wall.
That heritage shows. The north of Portugal has one of Europe's great textile traditions, and Patachou builds every piece on it: fine embroidery, delicate lacework, and classic silhouettes, all made in Portugal rather than outsourced. The result is a house style that sits somewhere between traditional and modern — smocking and Peter Pan collars alongside cleaner, contemporary cuts. Nothing overworked, nothing overdesigned. Just considered.
It's also a brand with quiet royal approval — Princess Charlotte has been photographed in Patachou more than once — though the label has never traded on it. And behind the scenes, Patachou runs Spreading Smiles, an initiative donating a piece of brand new clothing to children in need for every few items sold. Elegant, but not without conscience.
The Edit
Following Childrensalon's own styling language for the brand — colour and fabric first, detail second — here's what's landed in-store this season:
- Girls Ivory Velour Babygrow with Cherry & Floral Print — soft velour, delicate all-over print, finished collar.
- Girls Ivory & Tartan Carousel Embroidery Babygrow — carousel and teddy embroidery with a tartan collar; a keepsake piece as much as an everyday one.
- Girls Pale Pink Coat — generous cut for layering over knitwear.
- Boys Navy & Red Balmoral Tartan Set with Ivory Top — tartan trouser and ivory top, sold and worn as one.
- Girls Pink Cherry Print Babygrow and Girls Blue Indigo Print Babygrow — Patachou's classic-not-cartoonish approach to print.
- Patachou Plush Bunnies — soft toys in the same gentle palette as the clothing, for the smallest in the family.
Every piece is made in Portugal and sized from newborn through toddler, so it's easy to build a coordinated look across siblings.
Why It's In Our Shop
We're selective about which labels earn a permanent place at Mini Moments. Patachou earns it on craft alone — the stitching, the fabric weight, the restraint in the design — before you even factor in the heritage or the story. It's the same standard that's kept it on the rails at Harrods and Childrensalon, and it's exactly what we want families finding when they shop with us.
Caring for Your Patachou Pieces
- Always check the individual care label — the range spans cotton jersey, velour, wovens and knitwear, each with different ideal wash temperatures.
- Turn embroidered and lace-detail pieces inside out before washing, and air-dry rather than tumble-dry.
- Wash tartan and printed wovens on a gentle cycle to protect colour depth.
- Fold knitwear rather than hanging it, to help pieces keep their shape between wears — especially useful if you're planning to hand a piece down.
